12/23/2021 0 Comments Cave of the WombThis cave was done by the Thracians, an ancient culture, near the village of Nenkovo in Kirkali, Bulgaria, in the 1980s BC (about 3000 years ago). They carved the cave with a natural structure in a way that resembles a woman's womb. The entrance to the cave is 3 meters high, 2.5 meters wide and 22 meters deep. In the cave, an altar is carved in the form of a womb every day at 12:00 pm when the sun is in its zenith, sunlight enters through a crack at the top of the cave. The light reaches different depths on different days of the year. Exactly at the winter solstice, the sun reaches the altar by crossing the full distance of 22 meters and remains there for a few minutes. This event symbolizes the release of life on earth. According to the Thracians, sunlight was viewed as a sacred force that settled in the womb of nature and carried out the beginning of creation. There is another interesting feature about this cave. The entire cave area is dry, but the water that seeps out of the cave collects in a pond below the cave and that section never dries up.
